Following a call for London’s top design talent, Maria Smith, Director and Founder of Interrobang, has been appointed as one of the Mayor’s Design Advocates.
The 50-strong panel of design advocates - which includes Sir David Adjaye, Wayne Hemmingway MBE and Sadie Morgan – will support the delivery of the Mayor of London’s Good Growth by Design programme, launched last night in a major speech at the London School of Economics.
With the population heading towards 10 million people, London needs to provide space for 46,000 new jobs and build 50,000 new homes every year just to keep up with demand, as well as the social infrastructure to support both. The Mayor’s Good Growth by Design programme will enable this – creating world-class buildings, outstanding public realm, and large-scale regeneration.
As well as championing ‘Good Growth’, the design advocates will work with City Hall and councils on the programme, taking responsibility for setting and maintaining ambitious standards in urban design, building urban design capacity and improving procurement across the capital.
